Travis Hunter’s Long-term Position with Jaguars Uncertain After Coach’s Assessment
JACKSONVILLE, FL – The future role of Jacksonville Jaguars two-way player Travis Hunter remains unclear following comments from head coach Liam coen suggesting his eventual position isn’t predetermined. While hunter has showcased potential at both cornerback and wide receiver, Coen indicated the team will assess it’s needs before committing to a long-term plan for the first-round pick.
coen described the situation as a “learning experiment,” emphasizing the importance of determining where Hunter can contribute most effectively. “also looking where do we need him most, in more ways than others,” Coen stated. “I definitely think the whole thing’s been a learning experiment… getting to no the person has obviously been the most important thing and the type of competitor, the way that he learns, the way that he competes, the way that he practices, that stuff that we’ve been able to gain valuable information on and be able to use moving forward and actually put in a continued practice.”
Hunter’s performance has drawn scrutiny. He currently ranks 30th in coverage among 188 cornerbacks, according to Pro Football Focus. The Jaguars are 1-1 since losing Hunter after Week 7, including a 36-29 loss to the Houston Texans in Week 10.
Despite the setback, Jacksonville (5-4) currently holds the seventh and final playoff spot, largely due to an earlier season victory against the Kansas City Chiefs. The team will need to navigate the remainder of the season without their versatile rookie to secure a postseason berth.
Coen acknowledged hunter’s impact extends beyond on-field performance. “Yes, on the field, for obvious reasons, he’ll be missed,” he said. “But off the field,he’s got that presence, that confidence that is infectious.”
