Demonstrations Kick Off Across the Country
A wave of protests against President Donald Trump swept across the United states on Saturday, drawing an estimated millions of participants. The demonstrations, organized by a broad coalition of groups, signaled a important display of opposition to the current administration.
In New York City, Stephanie, a hospital worker who preferred not to disclose her last name, voiced a sentiment echoed by many: “The president is a disgrace, and I hope millions take to the streets today.” She was among hundreds who gathered early Saturday morning to make their voices heard.
The “No Kings” Motto and Underlying Concerns
A central theme uniting the protests was the slogan “No Kings,” a direct response to perceptions of presidential overreach. Demonstrators carried placards bearing the phrase, symbolizing a rejection of authoritarian tendencies.
“The president believes his rule is absolute. But in America, we have no kings,” declared the website of the “no Kings” movement, an alliance encompassing approximately 300 organizations. “We will not back down from chaos, corruption and cruelty.”
Over 2,600 Demonstrations Planned Nationwide
Organizers anticipated a massive turnout, with more than 2,600 demonstrations planned across the country.Major cities including San francisco, Los Angeles, Washington D.C.,Boston,Chicago,Atlanta,and New Orleans, alongside numerous smaller communities, hosted protests.
Building Momentum from Previous Demonstrations
The current wave of protests builds on momentum from earlier demonstrations. On June 14th, hundreds of thousands of people gathered in cities nationwide under the “No Kings” banner. This earlier action was timed to coincide with a military parade in Washington D.C. commemorating the 250th anniversary of the American Armed Forces – an event championed by President Trump and coinciding with his birthday.
