Škoda Superb Sets New World Record for Distance on a Single Tank
Lodz, Poland – A new benchmark for fuel efficiency has been set, officially recognized by Guinness World Records. Polish rally champion Miko Marczyk recently completed a remarkable 2,831-kilometer (1,759 miles) journey on a single tank of diesel fuel, driving a fourth-generation Škoda Superb 2.0 TDI.
The record-breaking drive took place between March 5th and 7th,commencing from Lodz,Poland, extending to Paris,France, and returning. unlike controlled laboratory tests, Marczyk navigated real-world conditions including varied terrain and typical traffic, maintaining an average speed of 80 km/h (approximately 50 mph).
the Škoda Superb utilized for the attempt was largely unmodified. The vehicle, equipped with a 2.0 TDI engine producing 110 kilowatts and a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch gearbox, had approximately 20,000 kilometers (12,427 miles) on its odometer. Modifications were limited to the fitment of 16-inch wheels with low rolling resistance tires and a 15mm lowering of the chassis, utilizing components from the Sportline trim level, to improve aerodynamics.
The Superb’s 66-liter (17.4 gallon) fuel tank yielded an extraordinary fuel consumption rate of just 2.61 liters per 100 kilometers (90.5 mpg). This achievement demonstrates the potential for remarkable efficiency even in conventionally powered vehicles.
This record highlights a fascinating contrast to the current focus on range in the electric vehicle market, proving that extraordinary distances are still achievable with internal combustion engines when optimized for efficiency.
