CHICAGO – A WGN News employee was detained by federal agents Friday on Chicago’s North Side, according too videos circulating on social media. The incident, which occurred near lincoln and Foster avenues in the Lincoln Square neighborhood, has prompted a statement from WGN News as authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding the detention.
Debbie Brockman, identified in the videos as a WGN employee and listed on LinkedIn as a video editor and producer for the station, was taken into custody after a confrontation wiht federal agents. Videos show a van allegedly driven by the agents colliding with Brockman’s car, followed by agents forcibly removing her from the vehicle. The incident raises questions about the scope of federal authority and the treatment of civilians during detentions.
According to the videos, agents rammed their van into Brockman’s car before forcing her to the ground and placing her in the van. During the process, the van scraped the side of another vehicle, damaging its bumper. Social media reports suggest a second individual, a man, may have also been detained, but this remains unconfirmed.
WGN News released a statement saying, ”WGN is aware of this situation, and we are actively gathering the facts related to it.”
The reason for Brockman’s detention and the length of her potential detainment remain unclear. FOX 32 Chicago is continuing to investigate and will provide updates as they become available.
