Virginia Field Hockey to Host Miami (OH) in NCAA championship First Round
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Virginia field hockey team will begin its quest for a national championship Saturday, hosting Miami (OH) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The contest is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET at UVA’s Turf Field.
This marks the Cavaliers’ seventh appearance in the NCAA Championship Round of 16, having previously advanced to the semifinals in 1997-98, 2009-10, 2019, and 2023. Virginia, currently ranked No. 5 in the NFHCA poll, boasts a perfect 13-0 all-time record against the RedHawks, including a 1-0 victory in their last meeting in October 2024 in Charlottesville. The winner will advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals to face either Northwestern or Yale on Sunday, Nov.16.
Virginia has consistently been a national contender, securing an NCAA Tournament berth in nine of the last ten seasons, with the exception of the 2020-21 season impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Cavaliers are one of five ACC teams in the tournament field, joining North Carolina, Duke, Syracuse, and Wake forest.
Miami (OH) enters the tournament riding an eight-game winning streak, having captured its eighth-straight Mid-American Conference (MAC) Tournament title and an impressive 17th-consecutive conference championship overall. Despite being unranked, the RedHawks present a formidable challenge as they seek to upset the higher-seeded Cavaliers.
