Vanderbilt soccer Celebrates SEC Weekly Honors
NASHVILLE,Tenn. – Vanderbilt soccer is coming off a week of significant achievement, as ally bollig and Sara Wojdelko have been recognized with southeastern Conference Player of the Week awards, the league announced this week. Bollig earned Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Wojdelko was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Week.
The accolades highlight Vanderbilt’s strong start to the season, punctuated by a landmark victory over a ranked opponent and consistent defensive solidity. These awards not only recognize individual excellence but also signal a positive trajectory for the Commodores as they enter conference play, aiming to build on recent successes and contend within the SEC.
Bollig, a senior from Aiken, South Carolina, made a dramatic impact with the game-winning goal in a 1-0 upset of No. 16 Georgetown on Thursday. The goal marked her first career score after overcoming a three-year absence due to injury, securing Vanderbilt’s first victory against a top-25 team this season.
Wojdelko anchored the Commodore defense during a pair of shutouts, contributing to wins against Georgetown and Middle Tennessee. The goalkeeper recorded nine saves against the Hoyas, repeatedly thwarting scoring opportunities and preserving the narrow lead. She then played all 90 minutes in a 1-0 road victory over Middle Tennessee, adding another clean sheet to her tally.
Vanderbilt will now turn its attention to SEC competition, hosting LSU on Friday at 7 p.m. CT. The match will be broadcast on SEC Network+.
