Title: Trump’s Ukraine Peace Plan: Europe Steps Back, Seeks Role in Talks

Geneva Top U.S. officials are meeting with a Ukrainian delegation in Geneva today for discussions centered on a peace plan proposed by former President Donald Trump to end the war with Russia. The meeting includes national security advisers from germany, France, and the United Kingdom, according to a diplomatic source.

The proposal, revealed this week, reportedly calls for Kyiv to cede territory, limit the size of its military, and forgo future NATO membership in exchange for a cessation of hostilities. The plan has sparked concern among European allies, who were largely excluded from its development, and raises questions about the future of Ukraine‘s sovereignty and security.

While welcoming U.S. efforts, the European Council yesterday expressed particular worry over the proposed limitations on Ukraine’s armed forces, noting the plan includes “important elements that will be essential for a just and lasting peace,” but requires “additional work.” Trump has indicated the American team has some flexibility, telling reporters yesterday that the proposal is not his “final offer.”

The meeting in Geneva comes as Trump appears to be offering Moscow a deal that analysts say gives Russia almost everything it wants. European leaders huddled on the sidelines of the G20 summit to coordinate a response, balancing a desire to address concerns with the need to avoid alienating the U.S. president.
