Toyota‘s ⁢GR ⁢Supra Supercar Unveiled, Marking Return to Factory Racing for Walkinshaw Andretti United

BATHURST, AUSTRALIA – Toyota has officially revealed ⁣its new V8-powered GR Supra Supercar, set​ to compete in the Australian Supercars Championship⁢ starting in 2025. The unveiling, held today, signifies Toyota’s return to full factory⁤ support ‌in the series for the first ⁤time as its days with the Holden Racing Team. Walkinshaw Andretti United (WAU) will field‍ the new Supra.

The introduction of the Supra marks a significant shift for both Toyota and WAU. For Toyota, it represents a renewed commitment ‌to Supercars,‌ leveraging the iconic Supra ⁣nameplate. For WAU, it’s a return to⁢ a full factory partnership, promising increased resources and development. The⁤ new Supra will replace the team’s current Ford Mustangs at the end of⁢ the 2024 ​season.

WAU has confirmed Chaz Mostert and Ryan Wood as drivers for the Supra program. Simultaneously ‌occurring, Brad Jones Racing ⁢(BJR) is finalizing its 2025 driver lineup, with Andre ‌Heimgartner already secured. Cam Hill is expected‌ to join BJR, and macauley Jones and jaxon Evans are in contention to continue​ with the team.

“What a moment today is, as the covers come off the GR ⁤Supra Supercar – a ‌huge thank you must start with everyone ⁤at Toyota, for thier trust, their belief, and their support of Walkinshaw ⁤Andretti United,” ⁤saeid team co-owner ‌Ryan Walkinshaw. “An absolute mountain ⁤of work has been ⁤poured in to get to this point, which everyone involved should‌ be immensely proud of.To see ⁢it in the ‍flesh almost feels surreal, it’s a momentous day⁤ for Walkinshaw Andretti United, ‌for Toyota and for Supercars… I still can’t believe how good it looks!”

The Supra will begin track testing soon, with its competitive debut ​slated for the start of⁢ the 2025 Supercars Championship season. Fans will ‍get their first in-person look at the car at the upcoming Bathurst event. Walkinshaw added, “We’ve got some big races to try and win this year still, ⁢but I ⁣can’t ‍help thinking about 2026 either.”
