Uruguayan Fugitive ‘El Pelón‘ Claims Innocence ⁢in Nurse’s Death,Despite History of Violence

A man with a lengthy criminal record dating back to his youth, known ⁣as “El Pelón” (Machado),has released a video ‌statement ‌denying direct involvement in the fatal shooting of a nurse in green Beach,Maldonado. the nurse died after being⁤ shot in the chest during‍ an attempted cell phone theft. While acknowledging he was present during the crime, Machado asserts⁣ he did not commit the murder, stating this is the reason he has⁢ not turned himself in to authorities.

Machado’s claim comes as police continue a manhunt following raids conducted last Thursday. The Prosecutor’s Office has ‍already charged another individual ⁣who accompanied Machado on ⁣the day ‍of the nurse’s death, alleging their participation in‌ the crime. Investigators believe the pair went on to commit another murder‌ in Pando shortly after. this case highlights a pattern of escalating violence⁢ following Machado’s release from custody, raising questions about judicial oversight‍ and public safety.

In ‍the video, obtained by Telenoche (Channel 4), Machado stated, ⁢”I know what I do ‍and what I do not do, as soon⁢ as I know that⁢ I am going to go with justice, but I do not have to hide myself.”

Machado’s criminal history began in ⁢2008 with an attempted homicide, leading to a ⁤placement at the National Institute for⁣ Inclusion of Adolescence. Subsequent‍ crimes resulted in further detention at the Institute‍ of Children and Adolescents (INAU). He killed another man less than a month after leaving ⁢INAU in 2021. The judge who‌ granted‍ his freedom at that time faced sanctions following the commission ‍of two subsequent murders.
