Spain: Examination Launched After Child Dies, Another Hospitalized Following Dental Visits
Alcira, Spain – A criminal investigation is underway in Alcira, Spain, after a six-year-old girl died and a four-year-old girl was hospitalized in serious condition following dental appointments on November 20. the incidents have prompted the temporary suspension of operations at the dental clinic where both children were treated and raised concerns about the governance of anesthesia in pediatric dentistry.
The two girls were taken to a hospital in Alcira on the same day, exhibiting concerning symptoms after their visits. The six-year-old arrived in cardiorespiratory arrest and was pronounced dead by doctors. The four-year-old presented with lethargy, fever, and nausea and remains in intensive care in serious condition. Authorities are focusing on a potential link to a “batch of defective anesthetic,” according to reports, though the clinic was reportedly not authorized to administer such products via intravenous injection.
Both children had received treatment at the same dental clinic, undergoing procedures including a milk tooth extraction and cavity fillings for the deceased girl. The clinic’s practice manager stated the deceased child showed no apparent health issues upon leaving the premises and that a sedative was used to “relax” the child during the procedures. investigators are currently examining the circumstances surrounding the anesthetic’s use and its potential role in the tragic events.
