OpenAI‘s Sora AI App ⁤sees Massive Android Adoption, Nearing 500K Downloads in Debut ⁤Day

San Francisco, CA – OpenAI’s highly anticipated Sora,‌ the text-to-video AI generator, experienced a surge in popularity upon its Android release, racking up nearly half a million downloads within its first 24 hours, ⁣according to‌ data‌ from app⁤ tracking firm Sensor Tower. The app is currently available in over 140 countries.

The rapid adoption underscores‌ growing consumer interest in generative AI and⁣ positions Sora as a potential⁤ disruptor in the⁤ video creation landscape.Initially ⁣available through a waitlist, Sora allows ‌users ‍to create videos from text prompts, offering a new avenue for content⁢ creation accessible ⁣to a wider audience. The app’s launch follows a period of limited access and testing, and comes as OpenAI adjusts usage limits‌ and introduces new features⁢ aimed at both casual and professional creators.

Currently, Sora access is tied to a user’s chatgpt account. Free users previously could generate up to 30 videos per ‌day, while Pro users were limited‌ to ‌100.OpenAI has now implemented a pay-per-use system, offering an additional 10 video generations for ⁤$4 when daily limits are⁢ reached. ChatGPT Pro ‌subscribers are considered ‍paying Sora users.

OpenAI is‍ also rolling ‍out ‌new tools ‍for Pro users, including a storyboarding feature – a standard⁣ practice in professional filmmaking – allowing ⁣for more detailed video planning before ‌generation. This addition, alongside potential future updates like longer⁣ run times and⁤ higher resolutions, signals a‌ possible shift ⁤towards attracting professional creators, a‍ segment openai has ⁤previously struggled to engage.

(Disclosure: Ziff⁢ Davis, ⁢CNET’s parent company, in⁣ April filed a lawsuit against ‍OpenAI, alleging it infringed Ziff Davis copyrights in training and operating its AI systems.)
