Kyiv, Ukraine – A NATO official reports Russia continues to suffer significant troop losses - averaging 1,200 per day this year – with a total estimated loss of 1.1 million personnel, including over 250,000 killed in action. Despite these losses, Russia is maintaining a consistent, albeit slow, offensive strategy focused on achieving complete control in Ukraine.
Recent weeks have seen Russian forces make incremental gains in eastern Zaporižžya, Dnipro, and the southern parts of the Donetsk region near Kupjansk. These advances are attributed to the open terrain and weaker Ukrainian defenses in those areas, allowing Russia to redeploy forces from unsuccessful summer offensives in densely populated regions. some Russian Marine units have been transferred to the Dobropilia district to counter potential Ukrainian counterattacks, though the official noted the situation hinges on the capacity of these units, as additional reserves are limited.
The pokrovsk direction remains a key priority for Russia, with forces attempting to advance from both the south and north despite heavy casualties. While Russian offensives in many parts of Donbass have stalled, the official anticipates potential intensification of fighting in the coming weeks or months.
The official emphasized that increased support for Ukraine, particularly following recent Ukrainian strikes on Russian fuel and logistics infrastructure, would improve the situation on the front lines.
According to the General Staff of Ukraine, Russia has lost approximately 1,125,150 troops since the start of the war. Daily losses reported over the last 24 hours include 1,200 soldiers, along with 5 tanks, 29 artillery systems, and 390 drones.
