Jakarta Police Arrest Man Allegedly Instructing Molotov Cocktail Creation amidst Protest Concerns
jakarta, Indonesia – Authorities have arrested a man identified as RAP, nicknamed “Professor R,” on suspicion of disseminating instructions for manufacturing Molotov cocktails through WhatsApp groups, according to Regional Police Commissioner gilang Prasetya of the Metro Jaya Regional Police’s General Criminal Inquiry Directorate. The arrest comes as Indonesian authorities remain on heightened alert following recent demonstrations adn potential for unrest.
The case unfolded after investigators discovered a WhatsApp group sharing tutorials detailing the construction of Molotov bombs, including lists of necessary materials. Commissioner Prasetya stated the suspect was identified as the coordinator distributing this information, raising concerns about potential deployment during planned protests. The arrest underscores escalating efforts to preemptively address potential violence and maintain public order.
RAP is currently undergoing intensive questioning by investigators from the Kamneg Subdit Ditreskrimum Metro Jaya. He faces charges under Article 160 of the Criminal Code, as well as provisions of the Information and Electronic Transactions (ITE) Law and the Child Protection Act, specifically Articles 45A paragraph 3 juncto Article 28 paragraph 3, and 76H juncto Article 15 of Article 87.
The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities working to determine the full extent of RAP’s network and any potential connections to planned demonstrations.
