PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Philadelphia police on Saturday recovered human remains in a wooded area during the search for 23-year-old Kada Scott, who has been missing for approximately two weeks. The remains were found behind an abandoned school in a shallow grave, and investigators believe they might potentially be Scott’s, though official confirmation awaits analysis by the medical examiner’s office.
The revelation comes as 21-year-old Keon King remains in custody, charged with kidnapping, stalking, and related offenses in connection with Scott’s disappearance. King’s case has raised concerns about the justice system, as he was previously released on bail after being charged in a similar case earlier this year.Deputy Commissioner John Stanford stated at a news conference that an anonymous tip led police back to the area, which had been previously searched. “We are not going to confirm, at this point, that it is Kada Scott because that has to be done by the medical examiner’s office,” Stanford said. “There’s still a lot of work to be done.” He added that the remains appeared to be those of a woman who had been deceased for several days.
Investigators have been in contact with Scott’s family, but further details are being withheld to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation. As of Sunday, the Philadelphia Police Department and the medical examiner’s office have not released additional updates. King’s bail is set at $2.5 million, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for next month. His defense attorney has not yet commented on the case.
