PANACEA,Fla. (WTXL) – Florida Forestry crews returned to wakulla County Sunday to assess damage and ensure the safety of utilities and property following a wildfire near Surf Road.
The fire, first reported just after 1 p.m. Saturday, consumed an estimated 25 to 30 acres.While Wakulla County Emergency services crews contained approximately 70% of the blaze Saturday afternoon, Sunday’s efforts focused on restoring critical infrastructure and providing peace of mind to residents. The incident highlights the ongoing risk of wildfires in Florida, especially during drier seasons, and the coordinated response required to protect communities and essential services.
Crews spent sunday repairing internet cable lines damaged by the fire. Wakulla County Emergency Services confirmed that crews were released after completing the repairs.Florida Forestry personnel conducted a thorough inspection of the affected area to verify the safety of both utilities and private property.
Surf Road, which was temporarily closed due to the fire, has since reopened. The Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office received the initial call regarding the wildfire Saturday afternoon.
