Gothic Knights Fall to ​Nationally Ranked NYU, 112-40

NEW YORK,⁢ NY ​| the new Jersey City⁣ University women’s basketball team suffered a non-conference‌ defeat against No. 1 NYU, ​112-40, on Sunday afternoon‍ at the John A.Paulson Center.

NJCU ⁢(0-2) was ⁣led by Na’Tori Postell with 12 points. Autumn John ​(Piscataway,‌ N.J./piscataway) nearly recorded a double-double with 9 points and 9 rebounds⁤ in 38 minutes,while Jhav Wilson (Trenton,N.J./Trenton Central) contributed 8‌ points, 4 steals, and 3 assists in 32 minutes. the Gothic‌ Knights shot 24.6% (14-of-57) from the field ⁤and committed 39 ‌turnovers,‍ resulting in 47 points for NYU.

NYU (3-0) was paced by Aila Kaibara‘s game-high ⁤21 points on 8-of-14 ⁢shooting,⁤ including 5-of-9 ⁤from three-point range.‍ Caroline‌ Peper added 14 points, ‌four steals, and two blocks, and ⁤Olivia Lagao finished with 12 points ⁣and‍ three assists. Sofia Corral recorded 11 points, six assists,‌ and ⁢five steals off⁢ the bench, as‍ NYU’s reserves outscored NJCU’s bench ‍55-9.

The Violets established a ⁤dominant lead ‌early,finishing the first quarter ahead 33-8,fueled⁢ by perimeter shooting and forcing NJCU ⁣into early turnovers. ‍NYU continued its offensive ⁤momentum in the ⁢second ‌quarter,‍ extending ⁤its lead to 57-17 at ⁤halftime.⁤

Despite efforts​ from Postell and ​John in the third quarter,NYU​ responded with 34 points. NJCU managed its highest-scoring quarter in the fourth,‌ with 14 ‍points, including contributions from Wilson and late layups from John.

Up Next: ⁣ The NJCU women’s basketball team will return to⁢ action ‌on ⁣Wednesday, November 19, with a 7:00 pm road game against​ The City College of ⁣New ⁢York (CCNY).
