Gothic Knights Fall to Nationally Ranked NYU, 112-40
NEW YORK, NY | the new Jersey City University women’s basketball team suffered a non-conference defeat against No. 1 NYU, 112-40, on Sunday afternoon at the John A.Paulson Center.
NJCU (0-2) was led by Na’Tori Postell with 12 points. Autumn John (Piscataway, N.J./piscataway) nearly recorded a double-double with 9 points and 9 rebounds in 38 minutes,while Jhav Wilson (Trenton,N.J./Trenton Central) contributed 8 points, 4 steals, and 3 assists in 32 minutes. the Gothic Knights shot 24.6% (14-of-57) from the field and committed 39 turnovers, resulting in 47 points for NYU.
NYU (3-0) was paced by Aila Kaibara‘s game-high 21 points on 8-of-14 shooting, including 5-of-9 from three-point range. Caroline Peper added 14 points, four steals, and two blocks, and Olivia Lagao finished with 12 points and three assists. Sofia Corral recorded 11 points, six assists, and five steals off the bench, as NYU’s reserves outscored NJCU’s bench 55-9.
The Violets established a dominant lead early,finishing the first quarter ahead 33-8,fueled by perimeter shooting and forcing NJCU into early turnovers. NYU continued its offensive momentum in the second quarter, extending its lead to 57-17 at halftime.
Despite efforts from Postell and John in the third quarter,NYU responded with 34 points. NJCU managed its highest-scoring quarter in the fourth, with 14 points, including contributions from Wilson and late layups from John.
Up Next: The NJCU women’s basketball team will return to action on Wednesday, November 19, with a 7:00 pm road game against The City College of New York (CCNY).
