Corpay and NHL Announce Partnership to Streamline International Payments

NEW YORK ‌- The National Hockey League (NHL) has partnered with Corpay, a leading provider of cross-border payment solutions, to facilitate its growing international operations. The ⁤deal will ⁣streamline financial‍ transactions related ⁤to the league’s seven‌ Canadian franchises, annual international games, and global competitions like the Ice Hockey World cup.

The partnership arrives as sports organizations increasingly navigate complex international financial landscapes. Historically operating as localized businesses, properties like the NHL now require complex solutions for cross-border payments-a trend mirroring the challenges faced by ‌expanding small and medium-sized enterprises.‍ This collaboration underscores the NHL’s commitment to optimizing its financial infrastructure as it continues‌ to expand its global‌ footprint.

Corpay already boasts a robust ⁤portfolio of sports partnerships, including sponsorships with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (MMA), World Triathlon, LIV Golf, World Athletics, World Aquatics, and SailGP. Thes collaborations highlight ⁣the growing demand for specialized financial services within the sports industry.

“Historically, [sports properties] operated like local businesses, but now ‍they must navigate a complex international financial⁤ landscape,” explained Laurent Descout, co-founder of Neo, a cross-border payments firm, to Sportcal (GlobalData Sport)⁤ earlier in 2025. “This mirrors the journey of [small and medium-sized enterprises] and mid-sized corporates as they expand abroad or start global ‌sourcing.”

The NHL’s international presence, ‍including regular season games in Europe and the participation of Canadian teams, necessitates efficient and reliable cross-border payment processing for player ⁢salaries, vendor payments, and revenue distribution. The partnership with Corpay⁢ aims to address these needs‍ and support ‌the league’s continued⁣ global growth.
