Manu Tuilagi Open to Representing Samoa in future World Cups
Bayonne, France – Manu Tuilagi has left the door open to a potential international future wiht Samoa, signaling a possible shift in allegiance after years representing england. The powerful center, currently playing for Aviron Bayonnais, indicated he is considering representing the nation of his heritage in upcoming World Cups.
Tuilagi, the only member of the famed Tuilagi rugby family to play for England, recently extended his contract with Bayonne until 2027. While committed to the Basque club, the possibility of honoring his Samoan roots on the international stage has emerged as a compelling option. His brothers – Henry (10 caps), Freddie (17 selections), Alesana (37 selections), Sanele Vavae (9 selections), and Andy (17 selections) – all wore the colors of Manu Samoa.Posolo Tuilagi, Henry’s son, is a current French international.
The 32-year-old tuilagi quickly became a key player for Bayonne last season, featuring in 20 Top 14 matches despite missing the barrage against Clermont and the semi-final against Toulouse due to a rib injury. Prior to signing his contract extension, there was speculation linking him to the newly formed rebel league R360, championed by former England teammate Mike Tindall. However,Tuilagi’s comments regarding Samoa suggest a different path, perhaps reigniting a family legacy on the international stage. The decision could significantly bolster Samoa’s squad as they prepare for future World Cup campaigns.
