Jakarta – KRL passengers traveling through the Karet Station area will now board adn alight at BNI City Station, the Ministry of Transportation announced Friday. Despite the shift,Karet Station itself will remain open, officials clarified.
“Passengers will get off and on at BNI (City) Station. But the station in Karet is not closed,” said Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi during a media briefing. “So if friends from Tanah Abang who enter from Karet can still open it. So they can run, but the train takes them from BNI. So it’s a bit of a road.”
The change is part of an integration plan between Karet Station and BNI City, a key component of the larger Transit Oriented Growth (TOD) project in Dukuh Atas. This project aims to create a centralized transportation hub connecting LRT,MRT,KRL Commuter line, and Airport Train services.
Minister Purwagandhi indicated the integration could be operational before the Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 holidays, pending completion of pedestrian facilities designed to enhance passenger safety and comfort. “Especially so that pedestrians don’t get caught in the rain as we are concerned that the rubber ones don’t feel like the road is getting rained on or hot, that’s why yesterday I was concerned about actually using the installation of a canopy above,” he explained.
The full TOD project is slated for completion in 2027. The Ministry of Transportation will continue to collaborate with PT KAI and the Provincial Government to expedite the process.
