Title: Israel Prosecutor’s Leaked Video Sparks Suicide, Arrests, and Political Fallout
Former IDF Legal chief Found After Disappearance Following Torture Video Leak
Tel Aviv, Israel – November 2, 2025 – Yifat Tomer-jerushalmi, the former chief of the Israel Defense Forces’ (IDF) legal department, was found alive today after a frantic search following her resignation over the leak of a video depicting the abuse of a Palestinian prisoner. her disappearance sparked a nationwide search after she whent missing yesterday.
Tomer-Jerushalmi resigned after acknowledging she leaked a security camera recording from July 5, 2024, taken at the Szadeh Teiman prison in Gaza – a facility used to hold Palestinian prisoners of war. The video, first aired by Channel 12 in August 2024, showed five reserve soldiers surrounding a Palestinian prisoner with Plexiglas shields and brutally kicking him. An indictment alleges the prisoner was also wounded with a pointed object.
Dr. Joel Donchin, the physician who treated the prisoner at the prison hospital, stated, “I thoght only Hamas would do such things. I didn’t think it would be done by Israeli soldiers.”
Tomer-Jerushalmi’s decision to leak the video followed intense criticism from far-right activists and politicians regarding the military prosecutor’s investigation into alleged abuses at the Szadeh Teiman prison and another facility in the Negev desert. Following the July 29, 2024, arrest of five soldiers suspected in the abuse, far-right groups reportedly attempted to obstruct the legal proceedings at Szadeh Teiman.Tomer-Jerushalmi faced accusations of siding with ”terrorists” and “blood libel” from the far-right despite a history of limited legal consequences for atrocities against Palestinians in Israel.
The leak occurred amidst a broader political struggle between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s governing parties and the justice system, mirroring a similar conflict from three years prior. A Likud spokesman blamed Chief Prosecutor Gali Baharav-Miara for the situation.
Tomer-Jerushalmi is expected to be charged with obstruction of justice for leaking the video and for falsely reporting to the Supreme Court that an internal investigation into the leak was unsuccessful. Legal experts have questioned her actions, suggesting she could have gone public with her concerns without breaking the law.
