Inter Stunned at Home by Udinese in 2-1 Serie A Upset
Milan, Italy – Inter Milan suffered a surprising 2-1 defeat against Udinese at the San Siro on Monday, halting their extraordinary run and marking their first loss of the Serie A season. Despite an early goal from Denzel Dumfries, Inter were unable to overcome a Udinese side that capitalized on a penalty and a swift counter-attack.
Inter began the match aggressively, pressing Udinese from the opening minutes. Though, Udinese created the first opportunity in the 9th minute with a counterattack led by Vakoun Issouf Bayo.Inter responded four minutes later with a header from Alessandro Bastoni that missed the target.Dumfries put Inter ahead in the 17th minute, finishing a move initiated by Lautaro Martinez and involving Federico Dimarco and Marcus Thuram. However, the lead was short-lived. In the 27th minute, Dumfries conceded a penalty after a VAR review for handball, allowing Lazar Samardžić to equalize for Udinese.
Udinese then took the lead in the 40th minute through Arthur Atta, who exploited space in the Inter defense to beat Yann Sommer.
The second half saw Inter continue to dominate possession, but they were unable to convert their chances. A 56th-minute goal by Dimarco was disallowed due to Thuram being offside in the build-up. Despite late substitutions including Pio Esposito and Ange Bonny, Inter failed to find an equalizer.
