Uber Passenger Facing Charges After Incident en Route to Lake County Facility
CROWN POINT,IN – A 22-year-old Gary man is facing a misdemeanor charge after allegedly exposing himself to an Uber driver while being transported to the Lake County Community Corrections Kimbrough Center,Indiana state Police announced. The incident highlights the challenges faced by rideshare drivers and underscores the ongoing efforts to ensure public safety within the Lake County justice system.
Isaiah Malik Johnson was being taken from an address on Arizona Street in Gary to the Kimbrough Center in Crown point on October 6 when the alleged incident occurred. According to investigators,the female uber driver reported that Johnson engaged in indecent acts and made inappropriate advances during the ride.She promptly terminated the trip and alerted staff at the correctional facility – the destination Johnson was headed toward.
detectives interviewed Johnson on October 9. He admitted to asking the driver for her phone number but denied the allegations of indecent exposure. He was subsequently booked into the Lake County Jail on one count of Indecent Exposure, a Class C misdemeanor.
The Lake County Prosecutor’s Office is currently reviewing the case to determine formal charges. Authorities remind the public that Johnson is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
