WhatsApp Users: Reclaim Storage Space with New Cleanup Tools

Millions of WhatsApp‌ users are now able to more effectively manage and delete unwanted files, freeing up valuable storage space on their mobile devices. A recent update to ⁤the messaging ‌app provides granular control over media and document clutter, addressing a common pain point for users who frequently share photos, videos, and files.

WhatsApp has long been a dominant communication platform, but its rich media sharing features can quickly consume gigabytes of storage. This impacts not only phone performance but also data usage for those with limited plans. The new tools empower users to identify and remove large files, particularly ‌those forwarded repeatedly, offering a straightforward solution to maintain optimal device functionality and avoid storage-related issues.

Here’s a step-by-step guide ‍to clearing out WhatsApp’s storage:

1. Access storage ‌Management: Begin by navigating to Settings > Storage & data > manage storage within the WhatsApp application.This section displays the total space WhatsApp occupies on your device.

2. Identify Large Files: WhatsApp now allows sorting of files based on several criteria:

* ‌ Forwarded several times: quickly locate and delete frequently shared content.
* Files larger than 5 MB: Target‌ the biggest space hogs.
* Size, age, or recent date: Organize files for targeted cleanup.

The size of each file is clearly displayed in the corner, and opening a file reveals its originating chat and send date.

3. Delete Files:

* Enter settings ⁤> Storage ⁤& ⁤data > Manage storage.
* ⁤ Select the specific chat or channel containing the files you wish to remove.
* Long press on one file to initiate selection, then tap additional files to choose multiple items.
* Tap the ‍delete ‍icon ⁣and confirm the action by selecting⁤ Delete all copies.

Important Note: Deleting⁤ files through WhatsApp removes them ⁣from the app, but copies may remain on your phone’s storage. To fully free up space, ensure all instances of the files are deleted from your device’s file system.
