Grand Theft Auto VI Release Delayed to Q4 2026
New York, NY - November 7, 2025 – Rockstar Games has announced a delay in the release of Grand Theft Auto VI, pushing the launch window to Q4 of 2026. The game was previously scheduled for a May 26, 2026 release.
The studio confirmed the delay via a statement on its X (formerly Twitter) handle, citing the need for additional time to “polish the game to a level that fans have come to expect and deserve.” Despite the declaration, the game’s official website still lists the original May 26, 2026 date as of today.
This marks the second delay for the highly anticipated title. Rockstar’s last original release, Red Dead Redemption 2, also experienced postponements, initially planned for mid/late 2017 before launching in October 2018. The gap between red Dead redemption 2 and GTA 6 is eight years.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick affirmed the company’s support for Rockstar’s decision, telling The Game Business, “When we set a date, we really do believe in it. We said when we set the last date, if a game requires more polish to be the best possible version of itself, then we will give that game more time.”
The delay raises questions about the timing of the PC release, wich was originally planned to follow the Xbox Series S/X and PlayStation 5 launch. A six-month shift for the console version could perhaps push the PC release to late 2027 or even 2028. Pricing for GTA 6 remains unconfirmed, though rumors suggest a potential price point of $100. There is currently no information regarding a potential Nintendo Switch 2 release.
In related news, Skydance Games has also announced a postponement for its action-adventure title, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, moving it from an early 2026 target to an unspecified date.
