“KPop Demon Hunters” Demon Cat Balloon Debuts at Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
NEW YORK - November 27, 2025 – A giant balloon depicting Derpy, the blue demon cat from the Netflix hit “KPop Demon Hunters,” soared above Manhattan today as the series made its debut appearance in the 99th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The inclusion marks a growing trend of anime-adjacent franchises gaining prominence in the iconic holiday event.
The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, a New York City tradition as 1924, is renowned for its massive character balloons representing popular film and series titles. This year, alongside established favorites like “Pokémon” (Pikachu and Eevee), “One Piece” (Luffy), and “Dragon ball” (Son goku), “KPop Demon Hunters” joined the lineup, signaling the series’ widespread cultural impact.
Beyond the balloon, the parade featured a live performance by EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and REI AMI – the voices behind the fictional band HUNTR/X from “KPop Demon Hunters” – performing their summer hit “Golden.” The appearance celebrated the success of the Netflix film, which has garnered meaningful attention this year and recently received five Grammy nominations.
