Flu and Bronchiolitis Epidemics Sweep Across France, With COVID-19 Showing Slight Increase

PARISFrance is battling simultaneous epidemics of influenza and bronchiolitis, impacting regions nationwide, while health authorities report a minor uptick in COVID-19 circulation. The flu epidemic has extended to ‌nearly all of France, with Ile-de-France, Normandy, and New ⁢Aquitaine especially affected.

This ⁣year’s vaccination campaign is underway, with the Ministry of Health releasing safety⁢ stocks to address concerns from pharmacists already reporting dose shortages.vaccination is free for at-risk groups, including those over 65,pregnant women, obese individuals, and people with chronic illnesses,as well as most healthcare workers. The convergence⁤ of these ‍respiratory⁢ illnesses places significant strain on⁢ the healthcare system as winter approaches and underscores the importance ⁣of preventative measures.

Alongside the flu, bronchiolitis, primarily affecting infants, has spread across France, with Corsica remaining the only ‍region spared. Public Health France reports indicators are “close to those ‌observed the previous season at the same period,”‌ noting last year was relatively mild for bronchiolitis, and several treatments are now ‍available ⁣to immunize babies.

Health officials are also ‍monitoring‍ COVID-19, noting a ⁤”slight upward trend” in viral load detected in wastewater, though⁤ circulation remains limited.
