False Claims Circulate Regarding Evo Morales‘ Arrest at Bolivian Airport
A fabricated video alleging the arrest of former Bolivian President Evo morales at the Chimore International Airport is circulating online, but authorities have not confirmed the facts and evidence indicates the video is from 2019. The false claim, labeled as “Live,” surfaced with a description stating, “Urgent. They have just arrested the former president of Bolivia Evo Morales at the Chimore Airport.”
Investigations by The Diary and Cotejo.Info revealed the video originated in November 2019, depicting Morales’ arrival in Mexico, as originally reported by Millennium on YouTube. While Morales currently has an arrest warrant issued in Bolivia, as of December 1, 2025, there is no credible evidence of his detention.
The arrest warrant stems from an October 2024 accusation-later endorsed by a Tarija court-alleging Morales had a child with a minor while in office in 2016. He was declared in absentia by a judicial court in early 2025 after failing to appear at hearings related to charges of aggravated human trafficking, citing illness. Morales recently appealed to the TSJ, referencing the annulment of a 10-year sentence and release of former interim president Jeanine Áñez.
