MANILA,Philippines – Public Works Secretary vince Dizon announced Tuesday he will dissolve the internal special examination team created by his predecessor,Manuel Bonoan,to probe anomalous flood control projects. dizon stated his belief that an internal investigation is inappropriate and that the matter is best handled by an independent commission to be formed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
Dizon emphasized the need for impartiality, stating, “I will dissolve it. I think it is indeed not right to investigate yourself.” he added, “the President will create an independent commission. That’s the proper way. We should trust the wisdom of the President, we need an independent commission. You don’t investigate yoru own organization. I will abolish it today.” The move comes after Bonoan established the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Anti-Graft and corrupt Practices Committee on August 28, 2023, through Department Order 166, in response to a scandal surrounding flood control projects. The dissolution signals a shift towards a more independent review of the allegations and a commitment to transparency within the DPWH.
