Cristhian mosquera Shifts Allegiance, Opens Door to Represent Colombia
Colombian national team coach Néstor Lorenzo may recieve a late addition ahead of upcoming World Cup qualifying matches. Defender Cristhian Mosquera, previously leaning towards representing Spain, is now reportedly more inclined to play for Colombia, citing increased difficulty in securing playing time with the Spanish national team.
The advancement comes after Mosquera’s recent statements sparked speculation about his international future. Journalist Diego Rueda, reporting on the program ‘The VBar’ from Caracol Radio, revealed that sources at Spanish radio station ’Cadena Ser’ confirmed Mosquera ”has the door open” with Colombia, adding, ”Thay say that the player is more willing to play with Colombia because of what my colleague just said that in Spain it is more challenging to play.” Mosquera currently plays for Villarreal in spain’s La Liga.
This potential switch is important as Mosquera, 27, had not previously been capped by either nation, making him eligible to represent Colombia. He was previously offered to Lorenzo for consideration in the World Cup squad, but the player’s preference at the time was to pursue a career with Spain. The change in stance offers Lorenzo a potential boost in defensive options as Colombia prepares for crucial qualifying matches.
