Coco Gauff Completes Wuhan Comeback, Defeats Pegula in thrilling WTA 1000 Final
Wuhan, China – Coco Gauff secured the WTA 1000 title in Wuhan today, battling past jessica Pegula 6-4, 7-5 in a final marked by dramatic swings in momentum. The world no. 3 overcame a mid-match slump and a significant deficit in the second set too claim victory.
Gauff started strongly, dominating early play with powerful forehands and backhands to take a 4-1 lead. Pegula responded,capitalizing on a dip in Gauff’s form and leveling the set at 4-4. However, Gauff regained control, closing out the first set 6-4.
The second set proved to be a rollercoaster. Gauff initially struggled, dropping the first three games and facing six double faults in the set alone, falling behind 0-3. Pegula was unable to consolidate her advantage as Gauff fought back to 3-3, effectively neutralizing Pegula’s attempts to pressure her with drop shots and short balls.
