Costco Recalls Caesar Salad, Chicken Sandwich & More Amidst Broad Product Safety Concerns
Costco and its supplier, Ventura Foods, have issued a recall for Caesar Salad (item no. 11444) and the chicken sandwich with Caesar salad (item no. 11444) due to the potential presence of foreign plastic materials in the salad topping. The recall was announced on November 7th and affects products distributed in selected stores across the Midwest, Northeast, and Southeast regions of the United States between October 17th and November 9th. Costco is urging consumers to immediately stop consuming these products and return them to any Costco location for a full refund.
This recall is part of a larger trend of recent health and safety alerts impacting products sold at Costco and other US supermarkets. Ventura Foods is currently investigating the source of the plastic contamination to prevent future occurrences.
Experts warn that exposure to microplastics can potentially lead to health issues including inflammation, oxidative stress, hormonal disruptions, and damage to the nervous and reproductive systems. Some studies have even linked microplastic exposure to an increased risk of certain cancers, such as breast and prostate cancer.
Beyond the salad and sandwich recall,Costco has recently issued a significant number of product recalls encompassing a wide range of categories. Earlier in November,F&F Fine Wines International Inc.recalled over 900,000 bottles of Kirkland Signature prosecco due to a risk of spontaneous bottle breakage. Olympia Tools International Inc.also recalled its Pack-N-Stroll folding utility cart, citing safety concerns for children.
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has been involved in several of these recalls, including those for Anker portable batteries (models A1257 and A1263) which posed a fire hazard due to overheating components, and certain Midea window air conditioners due to potential mold growth.
Other recalled items include Ninja Foodi Pressure Cooker and Air Fryers, underwater scooters, BowFlex adjustable weights, Michelin and Bridgestone tires, topo Chico beverages (due to potential pseudomonas contamination), Fresh and Ready Foods products (due to Listeria risk), and an Igloo 90 Qt Flip & Tow refrigerator (due to handle failure). The Kirkland Signature Severe Cold & Flu Plus Congestion item (lot P140082) was also recalled due to possible contamination with foreign material.
Costco encourages customers to check their homes for any of the recalled products and discontinue use immediately. Manufacturers are generally offering full refunds or replacements for returned items.
