RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The College of Idaho women’s basketball team secured its first victory of the season Thursday night, dominating La Sierra 83-51 in a commanding performance to begin a California road trip.
The Yotes (1-2) exploded offensively in the first quarter, establishing a 29-9 advantage that La Sierra could not overcome. This win marks a crucial early-season boost for the program as they navigate a challenging schedule and seek to build momentum heading into conference play. College of Idaho’s balanced attack and stifling defense proved too much for the Golden eagles, signaling a potential turning point for a team looking to establish itself as a contender. The Yotes will continue their California swing with a saturday matchup against Hope International University.
Freshman Riley Beck spearheaded the Yotes’ attack, achieving a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. brooke Beresford contributed 12 points and six boards, while Taryn Riley efficiently added 11 points, shooting a perfect 4-for-4 from the field.
The Yotes showcased impressive depth, with 11 players contributing to the scoring column and the bench providing a significant 43 points.Defensively, college of Idaho forced 21 La Sierra turnovers and limited the Golden Eagles to 29.5 percent shooting. Yasmine Garrett led La Sierra with 11 points, followed by naoime Munane with nine.
