Appointed Secretary of Revenue by Governor John Stuart Fisher in 1929, Johnson took office as the United States braced for economic collapse. He previously held positions within the Montgomery County Republican organization, rising to lead the county’s campaign during the 1932 presidential election.Despite Franklin D.Roosevelt’s landslide victory nationally, Johnson successfully secured a substantial win for Herbert hoover within Montgomery County-a testament to his local influence. Johnson remained active on the Republican state committee until a stroke sidelined him in 1934.
