Santo Domingo,Dominican Republic – BMI Seguros Dominican Republic partnered with the Moffitt cancer Center to host an educational forum focused on genetics and cancer prevention in women,bringing cutting-edge insights on personalized medicine to the Dominican Republic. The event underscored the critical role of early detection and genomic tools in combating cancer.
The collaboration featured specialists from Moffitt Cancer Center, including Massiel popa, Moffitt’s ambassador to the Dominican Republic, and Martha Sanz, Manager of International Patient Services. Both emphasized the importance of strengthening alliances to elevate cancer prevention and treatment standards within the region.
During the session, genetic counselor Stefania Alastre and Dr. Roberto Díaz, Senior Medical Director of Network sites for the Department of Radiation Oncology at Moffitt Cancer Center, detailed the significance of genetic testing in identifying hereditary cancer risks, especially for breast cancer. They explained how genomic integration enables the growth of precise, patient-specific preventative and therapeutic strategies.
