Ammunition Stolen from German Military in Security Breach
German authorities are investigating the theft of approximately 20,000 rounds of ammunition from the Bundeswehr, the country’s armed forces. The stolen munitions include combat pistol rounds, maneuver ammunition for assault rifles, and smoke ammunition, prompting a joint examination with local police.
The loss represents a significant security incident for the Bundeswehr, even tho a portion of the stolen ammunition was designated for training purposes. The incident raises concerns about the security of military stockpiles and potential risks associated with the missing weaponry, particularly given heightened geopolitical tensions in Europe. The Ministry of defense is assessing the full extent of the breach and reviewing security protocols to prevent future occurrences.
According to the Ministry of Defense, the stolen inventory comprises roughly 10,000 rounds of live combat ammunition for pistols, 9,900 rounds of non-explosive maneuver ammunition used for assault rifle training, and an unspecified quantity of smoke ammunition. The investigation is ongoing to determine how the theft occurred and whether any sensitive materials where compromised.
