Birmingham to Host Symposium Unifying Efforts to Combat Homelessness
Birmingham, AL – The City of Birmingham and One Roof, the Continuum of Care for central Alabama, are partnering to host “State of Homelessness: Redefining Community,” a symposium aimed at bolstering the city’s response to homelessness.The event will take place Monday, December 1st at 1 p.m. at Regions Field.
the symposium will bring together faith leaders, nonprofits, local businesses, civic partners, and public-sector leaders to discuss current strategies and chart a path forward.City leaders plan to highlight the $1.5 million already invested in housing and homelessness services.
“Every resident deserves safe, stable housing,” said Alanah Melton, director of unhoused strategy for the City of Birmingham. “This symposium is about mobilizing our collective power-government, businesses, faith communities, nonprofits, and neighbors-to ensure we meet that responsibility.”
Mayor Randall L. Woodfin added, “There is no problem too big for a city that has already changed the world. We can do it again-because every person in Birmingham deserves a brighter future.”
Organizers emphasize that homelessness can affect anyone due to circumstances like illness, job loss, or crisis. They state that addressing homelessness strengthens health,safety,and economic vitality across Birmingham.
The symposium will feature storytelling from service providers, remarks from Mayor Woodfin and community leaders, and a service provider roundtable.
