Buenos⁢ Aires‍ Hockey Association ‌Withdraws from National Super League

The Buenos Aires hockey Association (AHBA) has announced its clubs will no longer compete in the ‍Argentine ⁤Confederation’s national Super League,‍ effective with the 2026 season. The decision stems from calendar conflicts and ⁣concerns over the tournament venue being located outside ⁤of Buenos Aires-a departure from ‌initial plans too host in the capital city. The AHBA also cited ⁢the need to protect the physical⁤ well-being of players participating in the Metropolitan Tournament.

In a statement, the AHBA called for a “complete review of the structure of national and ⁣club competitions,” emphasizing the importance⁣ of respecting affiliated associations’ calendars, competitive needs, player availability for national teams, compatibility ‍with international tournaments, and an equitable venue assignment system‍ that supports sports growth across all regions.

Despite the withdrawal, the AHBA has not ruled out future participation⁤ and is exploring options for a tournament involving its‌ member institutions.

City (women’s division) and Miter⁤ (men’s division) have already qualified for the next edition of the tournament,⁤ having won the ‍Buenos Aires Cup 2025.
