Man Arrested for Sexual Harassment Also seen Setting Ymittos Forest Fire in Newly Released Video
Aigaleo,Greece – A 32-year-old man arrested this week for sexually harassing two teenage girls and a 58-year-old woman in Aigaleo has also been identified as the individual seen on video intentionally setting fire to a forest area of Ymittos mountain, authorities confirmed. Exclusive video footage obtained by ERTNews appears to show the suspect igniting the blaze and then departing as flames rapidly spread.
The Fire Brigade mobilized aerial and ground forces to contain the fire, successfully limiting its extent. Investigators from the arson Crimes unit used the video evidence and witness testimonies to pinpoint the 32-year-old as the arsonist, observing him using a lighter to start the fire.
The suspect was initially arrested by Aigaleo Security Police following the reports of sexual assault on September 15th.According to police reports, the man approached a 14-year-old girl, physically assaulted her, and then proceeded to harass a 58-year-old woman and a 17-year-old girl in separate incidents. Eyewitnesses, a 30-year-old and a 21-year-old, pursued and detained the suspect until DIAS police officers arrived to make the arrest.
Further investigation revealed the suspect had violated the restrictive terms imposed on him for a previous attempted homicide case, failing to appear at a scheduled check-in at the Saint Panteleimon police station. An arrest warrant was issued on September 12th.
Authorities are now investigating whether the 32-year-old is connected to three other fires that occured in Ymittos last June. The investigation is ongoing.
