Global Conference in Beijing Focuses on Energy Transition, Climate Synergy
BEIJING, september 25, 2023 - A major international conference kicked off today in Beijing, China, bringing together global leaders to address critical challenges in energy, climate, and lasting development. the 2023 Global Energy Interconnection (GEI) Conference, hosted by the Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Institution (GEIDCO), aims to accelerate the world’s transition to clean energy and bolster efforts to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
This year’s conference holds particular significance as it marks the eighth anniversary of the GEI initiative and the second anniversary of the Global development Initiative (GDI). It also coincides with the mid-term review of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, making it a pivotal moment for evaluating progress and charting a course for accelerated action. The GEI initiative proposes building a globally interconnected energy system based on renewable sources.
The conference will feature a thematic session co-organized by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), GEIDCO, and the China Meteorological Administration National Climate Center (NCC/CMA) focusing on “Energy Meteorology synergy Development.” This session will explore the crucial link between weather and climate services and the decarbonization of the energy sector. Participants will exchange knowlege and experiences on topics including carbon neutrality, energy-meteorology collaboration, and the development of innovative solutions.
