Chilean Puppet Show “31 Minutes” Debuts Intimate Tiny Desk Concert
Washington D.C. – The beloved Chilean puppet show 31 Minutes delivered a 31-minute Tiny Desk concert for NPR this Monday,marking the program’s first performance featuring the iconic characters in Washington D.C. The set, recorded in the United States, included fan favorites and playful commentary on current events.
The appearance is part of NPR’s fifth season of its annual Latin music cycle, which kicked off with a performance by Fito Páez. 31 Minutes’ Tiny Desk debut highlights the growing visibility of Latin American artists on a prominent U.S. platform and offers a unique cultural moment for both longtime fans and new audiences.The cycle continues through October 15, with upcoming performances from artists including Gloria Estefan, carlos Vives, and fellow Chilean musician rubio.
The concert featured performances of songs like “My spiritual balance,” “They dance incessantly,” “Objection denied,” “Hot Christmas,” and “My doll spoke to me.” During the show, the cast incorporated humor referencing the U.S.political landscape.
“This is the first time in Washington DC of 31 minutes, which is the time in which our work visas expires,” quipped Tulio Triviño, one of the show’s central puppet characters. The song Objection Denigrated was updated with the lines, ”The hand rises if you won the waiver, raise your hand if you are illegal.”
Tiny Desk Concerts are known for thier intimate setting and showcase a diverse range of musical talent. NPR’s public broadcasting service provides a platform for artists to connect with listeners in a unique and engaging way. Rubio, Fran Straube’s solo project, is also scheduled to perform as part of the Latin music cycle. The full concert series will feature a total of 11 musical performances.
