TikTok & Kazakhstan: Boosting Local Businesses Through Digital Tools
Kazakhstan is actively exploring the potential of TikTok too drive economic growth for its small adn medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Recent discussions between Serik Zhumangarin,the country’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Economy,and Sergey Sokolov,Director of Government Relations and Corporate Affairs for TikTok in Russia,Eastern Europe,Central Asia,and Mongolia,focused on leveraging the platform’s tools to support local businesses.
A joint study conducted by TikTok and the Atameken National Chamber of Entrepreneurs, surveying over 300 micro and small business owners across 20 regions of Kazakhstan, revealed notable positive impact. raimbek Batalov,Chairman of Atameken,highlighted the tangible results already emerging from the partnership,especially within the “One Village,One Product” initiative.This program provides entrepreneurs with training on utilizing TikTok’s digital marketing capabilities to expand their reach and increase sales.
The study found that consistent content posting – weekly uploads – correlates with ample revenue generation, with one in eight businesses earning over half their income directly through TikTok. 63% of surveyed businesses reported that at least 5% of their annual revenue is attributable to the platform.
To further support this growth, collaborative efforts are underway with the state-backed Damu Fund to expand training programs focused on TikTok’s digital tools. Batalov emphasized the critical role of digital integration in the continued growth of Kazakhstan’s small business sector.
sergey Sokolov affirmed Kazakhstan’s position as a rapidly expanding market, noting the platform’s considerable, yet largely untapped, potential for fostering digital entrepreneurship. He expressed TikTok’s commitment to working with Atameken and government authorities to enhance digital business tools.
The research indicated that businesses in the creative and service industries – including hospitality, entertainment, beauty, and wellness – are currently experiencing the most significant benefits from their TikTok presence. Content related to education and tourism is also demonstrating strong growth, with Kazakhstani educators and cultural projects garnering millions of views.
These developments build upon previous discussions between Kazakh officials and TikTok representatives regarding opportunities to promote Kazakhstan’s tourism sector to a global audience through the platform.
