Wedding Dreams vs. Reality: Pinterest Inspiration Frequently enough Comes with a Steep Price Tag
Regina, SK – Couples planning their weddings are increasingly finding inspiration on platforms like Pinterest, but wedding professionals in Saskatchewan are warning that the visually appealing ideas often don’t align with realistic budgets or time commitments. the disconnect between online aspiration and practical execution is leading to stress and sticker shock for many engaged couples, according to local event planners.
Imagine Events owner, Hodel, notes a common scenario: couples arrive with Pinterest boards full of elaborate ideas, only to be surprised by the actual costs. “A lot of people will make that dream Pinterest board. But people don’t really factor in the actual cost of things,” she explained. “So when they’re looking at those beautiful pictures of those floral arches, you know, they wont that… and then when they get stamped with the $3,000 to $5,000 cost from the florist… they’re a little shocked.”
The trend of seeking wedding inspiration online is meaningful. Pinterest’s annual wedding report reveals over 3.8 billion wedding-related searches were conducted between May 2024 and April 2025, with more than 13.4 billion wedding ideas saved globally during that period. This demonstrates the platform’s massive influence on wedding planning.
Beyond budget concerns, another common pitfall is the rise in DIY wedding projects. Bri Blazeiko, a wedding planner, acknowledges the potential for beautiful results with do-it-yourself decorations, but cautions against overcommitment. ”I think it’s great if you have the time and space for it. But I think a lot of people underestimate the amount of work that goes into planning a wedding,” she said.
Blazeiko also points to a broader shift in wedding trends, noting a rise in smaller, more intimate celebrations as the begining of the COVID-19 pandemic. This trend suggests couples are prioritizing experiences and personalization over large-scale events, potentially mitigating some of the cost pressures associated with elaborate Pinterest-inspired designs.Despite the potential challenges, both Hodel and Blazeiko emphasize the value of social media and online resources for sparking creativity. Blazeiko encourages couples to use these platforms as a starting point, but to ultimately prioritize their own vision. “My best piece of advice or reminder to couples is that it’s your wedding, so do what you want and the people that love you will stand by you,” she said, adding that marriage itself is the most important aspect of the day. “Everything else is just the icing on the wedding cake.”
