Henry Cavill‘s Departure from ‘The Witcher’ Stemmed from Prioritized Future Roles, Showrunner Reveals
Jakarta – The highly anticipated fourth season of Netflix’s The Witcher is approaching amidst continued scrutiny following the departure of its original star, Henry Cavill. While initial reports suggested creative differences, showrunner Lauren Hisrich clarified in a recent interview that Cavill’s decision to leave after three seasons was driven by commitments to other projects.
Hisrich explained to Entertainment Weekly on September 26th, “He already has a plan for other roles that really requires a big commitment… and for us, you can’t hold someone and force him to do something they don’t want to do. I think that’s what makes this like a decision together.” This revelation comes after speculation that Cavill’s exit was linked to his pursuit of reprising the role of Superman, a possibility briefly ignited by a cameo in Black Adam (2022) but ultimately unfulfilled.
The role of Geralt of Rivia has now been taken over by Liam Hemsworth,a casting choice met with significant backlash from a portion of the fanbase. A petition demanding Cavill’s return for season four garnered over 200,000 signatures, with some fans threatening to boycott the series.
Hemsworth has largely avoided engaging with the negative response, stating he deactivated his social media and limited internet use for nearly a year to avoid the “noise.” he awaits audience reception when the fourth season premieres in December.
The success of The Witcher Season 4 now hangs in the balance, facing the potential to either surpass viewership records or suffer a decline due to the continued discontent of former fans.
