A year ago, in cooperation with the Kaufman Music Center in New York and composer, curator Judd Greenstein, a new tradition was established – the Latvian branch of the Ecstatic Music festival was opened. The festival has been taking place in New York since 2011 and will take place in Ventspils for the second time this year. An epithet of the “Amazing Music” festival has been found in Latvian, which accurately describes the essence of the festival.

On the first day of the festival, November 14, the artist “Bec Plexus”, her trio of percussionists Marta Kauliņa and Maris Zīlmanis’ duo “Percusstic Duo” from Amsterdam and Liepaja Symphony Orchestra will meet on the stage of the concert hall. The joint performance will feature compositions by Dutch and American composers from Bec Plexus’ debut album STICKLIP. In the first part of the concert, the string quartet “NŌNA” will perform with a special chamber music program by Christopher Cerrone, Reena Esmail, Jonathan Bingham and Donnaca Dennehy.

As the festival continues, on November 15, the concert will be premiered by the well-known American composer Sarah Kirkland Snider’s work “Mesa for the Endangered” or “Mass for the Endangered” by the State Academic Choir “Latvia”, the festival ensemble “Ecstatic Ensemble” and conductor M . In the first part of the concert, the Quadra quartet together with guest musician Konstantin Paturski (violin) will perform Vijay Iyer’s work “Time, Place, Action”.
