Ottawa‘s Cardiology Institute Launches Ambitious ‘A Million Hearts’ Screening Campaign
OTTAWA,ON – The University of Ottawa heart Institute is embarking on a large-scale cardiovascular health screening initiative,dubbed “A Million Hearts,” aiming to proactively identify and address risk factors for Canada’s leading cause of death.The campaign was announced Tuesday with representatives from all levels of government in attendance, including Ottawa Mayor Mark Sutcliffe, Federal MP Yasir Naqvi, and Ontario MP Catherine McKenney.
Cardiovascular disease remains the number one cause of mortality in Canada and globally, impacting hundreds of thousands of canadians annually. The Heart Institute, which treats over 200,000 patients each year, hopes to shift the focus from reactive treatment to preventative care through this ambitious program. “The challenge is immense, but our determination is just as much,” stated Dr. Rob Beanlands, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Cardiology Institute.
The “A Million Hearts” initiative will focus on providing accessible information and resources to help individuals understand their cardiovascular risk and take proactive steps towards better heart health.
