Velo Field Test Crowns top Gravel Bikes of 2024
New Gloucester, Maine – After rigorous testing across diverse Maine terrain, Velo has released its comprehensive 2024 gravel bike field test results, naming teh Canyon Grail CF SL 8 as its overall favorite. The head-to-head comparison of six leading gravel bikes – the Canyon Grail CF SL 8, Cervélo Aspero 5, Giant Revolt 2, Specialized Diverge STR Comp, Trek Checkpoint ALR 5, and Wilier Rave SLR – evaluated performance across speed, comfort, and capability.
Gravel cycling’s surging popularity demands increasingly refined equipment. Velo’s testing provides riders with crucial insights as they navigate a crowded market, helping them select a bike best suited to their riding style and terrain. the test, conducted in fall 2024, assessed each bike’s handling, climbing ability, descending confidence, and overall value, with testers Alvin holbrook and Hannah Gross putting each model through its paces.
The Canyon Grail CF SL 8 emerged victorious, praised for its blend of speed and comfort. Velo testers noted its “surprisingly compliant ride quality” and efficient power transfer. The Specialized Diverge STR Comp followed closely, lauded for its versatility and stable handling. The Trek Checkpoint ALR 5 earned recognition for its value and all-around performance.
The testing process was a collaborative effort,supported by Logan Patrick Nelson and Satchel Cronk of the video team,with video editing also handled by Nelson. Maine Sport Outfitters provided bike shop support, while Visit Maine assisted with routes, locations, and logistics. On-the-ground support was provided by Caroline Lustgarten, Liam Ereneta, and brian Park, and the test was hosted by Will Tracy.
