Cop Holds Boxer Terence Crawford at Gunpoint during Traffic Stop: Video
OMAHA, NE – A video circulating on social media shows Omaha police officers holding boxing champion terence Crawford at gunpoint during a traffic stop early Sunday morning. The Omaha Police Department has launched an internal affairs inquiry into the incident.
According to a statement released by the Omaha PD, officers observed a vehicle driving recklessly near North 12th and Capitol Avenue shortly before 1:30 a.m. A traffic stop was initiated on Cass Street.
During the stop, an officer reportedly observed a firearm on the driver’s side floorboard. For safety reasons, all occupants were ordered out of the vehicle at gunpoint. The driver was identified as Terence Crawford after verifying his driver’s license and was issued a citation for reckless driving. A passenger,identified as a member of Crawford’s security team,was also found to be carrying a legally permitted firearm.
“Omaha Mayor John Ewing and Police Chief todd Schmaderer are aware of a video circulating on social media regarding a traffic stop involving Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford early sunday morning,” the Omaha PD statement reads. “Chief Schmaderer has authorized an internal affairs investigation.”
Police confirmed that all occupants were legally permitted to carry firearms.A police supervisor and lieutenant responded to the scene at Crawford’s request.
the incident occurred just hours after Crawford was honored with a championship parade in Omaha following his victory over Canelo Alvarez on september 13 in Las Vegas, a fight that aired on Netflix. Crawford defeated Alvarez to become the undisputed super middleweight champion.
Crawford, 42-0 with 31 knockouts, is widely considered one of the top pound-for-pound boxers in the world. He declined to comment on the incident when contacted by TMZ.
