Tennis Stars Say “I Do” and Announce New Arrivals
Zante, Greece & Melbourne, Australia – Two couples within teh world of professional tennis shared joyous news this week, marking milestones both on and off the court. Mirjam Bjorklund and Denis Shapovalov have married, while Daria and Luke Saville are expecting their first child.
The wedding of Bjorklund and Shapovalov, who began dating in 2019, took place on September 9th in a private ceremony on the Greek island of Zante, attended by just 30 close friends and family members. Details of the intimate celebration were exclusively released Friday in Vogue Scandinavia and People magazine, featuring stunning photography by Karin Lundin.
“It was the most stunning beginning of our marriage and we are very excited to spend eternity together,” said Bjorklund, currently ranked No.128, in an interview with People. The bride wore a strapless gown by Ukrainian designer Milla Nova and surprised guests during their first dance with a somersault-filled routine inspired by the film The Wedding Ringer. “I think all our guests knew we weren’t going to do a slow dance, but I don’t think anyone expected it,” she added.
Meanwhile, Daria Saville (formerly Gavrilova) and her husband, former ATP player Luke Saville, announced they are expecting a baby in March. The couple shared the news via a heartwarming video posted on Instagram,featuring their dachshund,Tofu,and an ultrasound,culminating in the reveal of a March 26th due date.
Saville,a former world No.20, has been open about her journey to motherhood. She previously discussed undergoing egg-freezing and revealed a 2019 diagnosis of polycystic ovary syndrome. Her Instagram caption accompanying the proclamation included a poignant message: “To all who still dream of this moment, we are thinking of you.”
