Teen Cosplayer Arrested After Assaulting Amos Yee at Singapore Anime Event

An 18-year-old boy was arrested on May 9 after allegedly assaulting convicted child sex offender Amos Yee outside an anime convention at the Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Singapore Police Force officers were alerted to the incident at approximately 2:15 p.m. Upon arriving at the scene, police established that Yee, a 27-year-old man, had been assaulted and sustained minor injuries. The 18-year-old suspect was subsequently arrested on charges of causing a public nuisance.

Videos circulating on social media depict the altercation, showing an individual dressed in cosplay as Yuji Itadori, the protagonist of the anime Jujutsu Kaisen, attacking Yee. The footage shows the assailant punching, kicking, and stomping on Yee as bystanders watched. The attacker briefly stepped away before returning to leap onto Yee, bringing him to the ground and delivering an elbow strike while Yee was curled up.

Shortly after the encounter, at 2:26 p.m., Yee posted a photo to the social media platform X showing injuries to his finger and a bloodied bottom lip, stating he had been attacked at the convention.

The incident took place during Doujima, also known as Doujin Market, a home-grown anime convention held in halls 403 to 405 of the convention centre from May 9 to 10. In response to media inquiries, event organizers clarified that the altercation occurred after Yee had left the convention grounds. According to the organizers, Yee had approached staff at the entrance and was informed that he had been banned from the event.

Police investigations into the assault are ongoing.
