Tasikmalaya Faces Controversy Over Banned Indie Band Performance
Jakarta – A recent prohibition of the indie band the Indies from performing in Tasikmalaya, West Java, has sparked meaningful discussion. Community association Al Mumtaz cited concerns that the band’s performance was “deviated,” leading too the cancellation.
Reports suggest that the band’s stage presence and props raised questions among members of the organization, fueling unsubstantiated rumors. The Indies were scheduled to perform at a music festival at the Wiriadinata Air Base from July 19 to 20, 2025.
Dicky Chandra, an artist and the deputy mayor of Tasikmalaya, addressed the controversy, expressing hope for a resolution that benefits all parties. “I hope there is a decision that makes a win-win solution. Hopefully,it is the best, and made a lesson,so that in the future it can better maintain the image of the City of Tasik, can continue to be creative but without violating norms and rules,” Chandra stated on Wednesday,July 16,2025.
Chandra also urged the public not to misunderstand the motivations of the community organizations. He clarified that their actions were not an anti-concert stance but rather a concern for the younger generation’s well-being. “I am not suuzan, from mass organizations not anti-concert,but may be more concerned with the nation’s generation so as not to be damaged from any side,” he said.
He also acknowledged that the event organizers were not at fault, noting that The Indies had performed previously without incident. “Conversely, they (EO) are also not wrong, because there is never anything wrong.Even the Indies have (performed) here, there is no problem,” Chandra added.
The public awaits a definitive decision from the West Java Regional Police regarding the concert permit.
